UCLG is putting forward some recommendations based on the ones adopted by the main international networks of local and regional authorities meeting in New-York in April:

  • A new multi-level governance architecture is needed.
  • Sustainable Cities should be a crosscutting issue in the Sustainable Development Agenda.
  • Cohesion among territories in development policies should be fostered.
  • Culture should be acknowledged as an important dimension of sustainable development.
  • Development of legal and financial mechanisms at international and national levels for local and sub-national governments.

The top recommendations will be presented at the Sustainable Development Dialogues events to take place in Rio from 16 to 19 June, and to the Heads of State and Government at Rio+20 Conference itself.

Members are strongly encouraged to register to the Dialogues online and vote for the recommendations they want to promote and to be conveyed to the Conference.
